Capillary activity (capillary-active materials)

Capillaries are pores of different sizes, usually the smallest pores of a material or building material. Capillary activity therefore describes the transportation of liquids within these pores. The term capillary-active is mainly used in connection with building renovations. For example, the ability to transport water and vapor is important when using breathable and capillary-active calcium silicate panels. A capillary-active system is able, for example, to transport vapor into the wall during the cold season using the so-called diffusion flow. It can absorb water or moisture, transport it and release it back into the room.
