Calcium silicate (CaSiO3) is a chemical compound that comes from the groups of silicates and calcium compounds. Other names for this substance are calcium silicate, calcium silicate, silicic acid, calcium salt or E 552. The mineral wollastonite is the natural form of calcium silicate. However, it can also be obtained artificially by causing a reaction between so-called quicklime (calcium oxide, CaO) and quartz or silica gel (silicon dioxide, SiO2); the corresponding formula is then: CaO + SiO2 = CaSiO3. Calcium silicate has fire protection class A1, is highly alkaline and pressure-resistant due to its high pH value. The material is used in food technology, for fire protection and above all for mold remediation or interior insulation.
